TuttoAlberobello

Festivals and events

The fixed dates of the year in Alberobello and nearby towns, season by season. Dates change every year: where we know them we give them, always with a link to the organisers.

December – January: Christmas among the trulli

The best-loved time after summer: the town lights up and gets busy, especially at weekends.

Light Festival (Li.Fe.)

Light installations by artists from around the world across the centre and on the trulli, usually from early December to Epiphany. The 2025/26 edition, the tenth, runs from 6 December to 6 January.

Living nativity, Aia Piccola

Over 200 people in costume among the trulli of Aia Piccola, with the old crafts. A tradition going back more than fifty years: in 2025 from 26 to 29 December.

Markets and Christmas in town

From late November to Epiphany there are markets, lights and events all over town. Weekend evenings are the busiest: book dinner ahead.

January – February: Putignano Carnival

Twenty minutes' drive away, one of Europe's oldest carnivals.

The float parades≈20 min

Huge papier-mâché floats parading on Sundays and on Shrove Tuesday, which closes the carnival. In 2026 the last parades were on 15 and 17 February.

April: folklore in the square

Spring: the best time for the weather, with a few extra festivities.

La Primavera in Apulia

International folklore festival between Alberobello and Matera: traditional dance and music groups from across Europe, with free shows in the square. In 2026 from 24 to 27 April.

July – August: the valley's festivals

On summer evenings, head to the nearby towns, fifteen minutes away.

Itria Valley Festival, Martina Franca≈20 min

The opera festival in the courtyard of Palazzo Ducale, running since 1975. In 2026, the 52nd edition, from 14 July to 2 August.

Locus Festival, Locorotondo≈15 min

Jazz, soul, pop and electronic concerts with international artists, between June and August.

September: the patron saints' feast

The patron saints' feast: Alberobello's most important days of the year.

27 and 28 September

Two processions with the statues of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the lights switched on at night in Piazza del Popolo, street painters chalking the paving and a funfair. Pilgrims come from all over Apulia: book early.

October – November: harvest and new oil

Not a festival, but the right time to taste the valley.

Wineries and olive mills

After the grape harvest, olive picking starts in late October and the mills press the new oil. Wineries and mills that welcome visitors are on the Experiences page.
